It’s sudden, but do you have hay fever? If you are a hay fever sufferer, you may have thought about this as well.
“Can’t we have a world without hay fever!?“
Let’s get your questions answered!
What is hay fever?
Pollen is the grain produced in the pouch called anther in the stamen of a flower.
Pollen is carried by the wind and pollinated by the pistil, which produces seeds and plays a role in plant reproduction.
About 60 types of pollen that cause hay fever have been reported, including cedar and Japanese cypress.
According to a survey by Daiichi Sankyo Healthcare, the national average is 55.1%, or more than half of the population, while in Shizuoka Prefecture the percentage is 74.0%, or more than 70% of the prefecture’s residents have hay fever.
In addition to this, there are many Tenryu cedars in Hamamatsu is also a major factor.
There are three hay fever diseases in the world, known as the “world’s three major hay fever .” Hay fever does not seem to be a problem only in Japan. Also, seeing that the other two are not trees and that cedar pollen damage is not as common in other countries as it is in Japan, Hamamatsu seems to have a unique problem.

【cedars Features】
・It has been widely used for fittings because of its beautiful appearance.
・It is easy to process, and in addition, it is highly breathable and waterproof, so it was used as a raw material for sake barrels and shipbuilding in the old days.
Current State of the Forestry Industry
If we have to think 50 years into the future, planting does not seem practical at this time.
There appear to be many disadvantages to cedar felling.
We discovered these problems when we interviewed Mr. Matsushita of Tenryu Kokoro no Mori Network.
We found that Japan has so many problems in the forestry industry.
Why can’t we eliminate cedar?
Let’s take a closer look at why cedar cannot be eliminated.
Because of the above problems, we are in a situation where we cannot eliminate cedar even if we wanted to.
Our Proposal
We’ve found that cutting down trees is the first step in reducing pollen.
Consumer demand is necessary for cutting trees, and if consumers were to buy trees continuously over the long term, the demand for trees would increase and the forestry industry would be better off.
What we can do, and what we want you to do, is to use FSC marked trees.
Although it is not often noticed in Japan, some people who cut trees without FSC certification often have problems such as being forced to work for low wages. There are many countries in the world where FSC penetration is low. By increasing the penetration of FSC, we will be able to solve the problems of forestry not only in Japan but also in the world.
We hope that we can solve the problems of forestry and pollen by not only using trees, but also by learning about the charms of Tenryu cedar and using lots of trees together.
