Motive
We noticed that we are just trying to figure out a racial discrimination which got an attention again. So we wondered why racial discrimination is not going to be ended. That’s why we are trying to find a truth. Also, we think that there are a lot of foreigners in Hamamatsu. Therefore we tried to summarize the difference between Hamamatsu and foreign countries through interview.
News
We heard the news that a black man had his neck compressed by a police officer,which triggered the demonstration regarding black-white discrimination. First of all, we looked into the incident that led to the demonstration.
It’s because it’s a key event for us to decide on the theme.George Floyd,died in the incident.

Five of them were killed in an unreasonable way.We were very shocked to receive this result.I don’t think there’s any reason to be killed just because you’re black
History
We looked into a history of black people, white people and slavery. When do you think the slavery began? It is said that the white people who came to America started enslaving the people who originally lived in America as slaves. Do you think that only white people treated them as slaves? At first we thought that only white people treated them as slaves. But it was not true. Also, we learned that not all the blacks were slaves. It seems that there were a few people who were not in the position of slaves such as indigenous people and free black people.At that time, the slaves were mainly for labor. But the slaves labor system in the south was abolished by the victory of the Civil War.
Later, it is said that Lincoln’s slavery declaration ended the slavery system.
Type
We mainiy investigated what would be discriminatory.Discrimination that we usually unconsciously inciuded was prejudice.Ithink there are people in Japan who think there is no discrimination,but it never happend.
There is discrimination not only in black and white,but, also in Japan,such as gender.
Discrimination and educational disparity.
Interview
We visited HICE, Hamamatsu Foundation for International Communications and Exchanges, and SUAC,Shizuoka University of Art and Culture, to get more information. At HICE we heard about the issue of foreign workers and at SUAC we learned about the history and different types of racial discrimination and worries which international students have. We found that language barrier was also big and painful,and then we discussed measures and future for racial discrimination in Japan.
Finally
While we are investigating black-and-white discrimination, we set the final goal of learning about the unconscious prejudice of ourselves against foreigners and making them look to the world and change their consciousness. We learned that it is important for us to feel about racial discrimination and to recognize each other’s cultures. Racism Discrimination is an eternal problem that never disappears.
