1、Garbage removal and noise problems
Garbage disposal by mistake and noise problems have been a constant problem. For example, foreign residents do not know how to separate the garbage and do not know what day of the week they can put out the garbage. Noise problems include loud phone calls at night, loud music, and noisy barbecues in the garden.
Can we blame all of this on foreign countries alone?
Foreigners don’t know about how to put out garbage unless we tell it to them. They tend to call someone living in their home country late sometimes midnight. Because there is the time difference between Japan and their own country. As for playing loud music, it is sometimes the norm in your home country. Regarding barbecue, Some of Japanese people don’t want foreigners to have a barbecue in their garden at lunch time.
How well did we understand these things?
The current situation is that cultural differences, prejudice against foreigners, and lack of communication have led to so many autonomy issues. There are many things that cannot be conveyed without putting them into words. It is important for us to start communicating and sharing information with foreign people, starting with daily greetings and simple conversations, and to deepen our understanding of them so that we can live comfortably with them.
2、Multicultural education…?
In recent decades, the demand for multicultural education has increased dramatically. Multicultural education is not only about understanding international relations and different cultures, but also about nurturing human resources who can act proactively as members of an international society. Multicultural education has been adopted in elementary schools, but many schools refuse to accept Asian and South American people and prefer to use Westerners as instructors. However, in reality, there are fewer Westerners in Japan than those from Asia and South America. We think it is important to understand the foreign people around us in order to provide multicultural education.
3,foreign workers
The issues surrounding foreign workers are becoming more and more diverse as the number of foreign workers increases. These issues include the garbage problem and issues surrounding education as mentioned above.
This leads to issues such as whether foreign workers are able to adapt to Japanese culture and whether their children are able to adjust to Japanese culture at elementary school.
There are also issues on the system. For example, the foreign technical internship program is not a system designed to secure a workforce in Japan, but it is in fact a system designed to secure foreign workers.
As the number of young people is decreasing and the number of Japanese workers is decreasing, we are required to work with foreign people for longer periods of time.
