4.conservation organization

Another reason for the decrease in killings is the increase in the number of organizations doing conservation work!

Currently, there are 27 organizations in Shizuoka Prefecture and 55 in Tokyo, the largest city in the country.

In this issue, we spoke to an organization that is active in the prefecture.

Animal Foster Parents

Animal Foster Parents, based in Kosai City, rescues dogs and cats that have been abandoned and have no place to go, mainly in the western part of Shizuoka Prefecture, and tries to find them new families.

About 350 dogs and cats are transferred each year.

The first thing we were led to when we went to the interview was a medium to large dog cage.

About 20 dogs were caged, every two of them. Some of the dogs had been rescued seven years ago.

I felt a little cramped in the cage, but I could tell that many lives had been saved.

Most of the dogs are timid because most of them were wild dogs, and some of them can’t get into a car, and in some cases they can’t be taken to the hospital if they get sick.

Our goal is to get those dogs used to humans and make as many cats and dogs happy as possible.

We heard from the head of Animal Foster, Mr. Sugiura!

Q. Why did you decide to start a dog and cat rescue program?

A. Twenty-five years ago, I met a stray dog in Yamaguchi Prefecture, and that was the catalyst for me to start a rescue program.

Q. How does the transfer work?

A. If someone wants to transfer the animal, we will first have a careful discussion with them to make sure they are responsible for the animal until the end and that they have the right environment to keep it.

It is not possible to transfer to 100 percent of the applicants.

Only about 60% of the final transfer can be made if the applicant is elderly, or the apartment is not allowed to have a pet, etc.

Trns out the transfer is less than I thought it would be, but it’s taking more time!

Q. How do you think we can reduce the number of sad pets?

A. First of all, I would like to see a change in the way of thinking, starting with young people.

You can’t keep an animal for love alone.

I want you to understand that very well.

Then Mr.Sugiura said these words to me.

One person’s feelings can make you happy. You can die.

Dogs are trying to trust people even if they don’t speak, so humans must respond to the animal’s feelings, too.

First of all, I want you to know what’s going on, and even if you can’t do it right now, I want you to keep him when he’s an adult, and if he’s abandoned or lost on the side of the road, I want you to reach out to him.

Don’t end your life there.

What do you guys think about when you hear this?

I want these words to resonate with as many people as possible.

Abandoned dog! Abandoned cat! zero-sum associatio

Abandoned Dogs!” which works to save animals and people. Abandoned cat! We, the students, interviewed Ms. Masako Naruse, the secretary-general of “Zero Group”.

Start

Masako, who lived in an apartment building, wanted to help the couple next door who were having a baby when they fed their cat, but the people at city hall told her, “You can’t save animals! However, Masako did not give up and kept going to the city hall and other places to save the animals. However, Masako was undeterred and kept going to the city hall to save animals. And then, abandoned dog! Abandoned cat! They have created a group of zero.

Activitise

Of course, they protect dogs and cats, but they also offer another kind of pet consultation. It’s difficult to understand the condition of the other party when communicating via email, so they call or meet in person. They work with owners to figure out how to keep their pets and other issues so that people and animals can have a better life together.

Also, it’s not a large organization, so it’s an indirectly patronizing organization rather than a direct one.

What we can do.

If you have a dog.

.Registration of pets as required by law.

.Rabies shots.

.Always wear a leash when walking your dog.

.Take care of them until the end.

If you have a cat.

.Keep them indoors.

.Spaying and neutering.

.Take care of them until the end.

Japan’s Pet Problem

・Increasingly, elderly people are leaving their pets unattended or asking to be taken in because they cannot afford to buy them for various reasons.
・A person living on welfare has a stray cat or a stray dog and is forced to take them in because they have become hyperactive. In this case, people who don’t have good relationships become lonely and often become dependent on the animals.

How to improve the pet problem in Japan

It’s about seeing things from a human perspective, not a pet’s perspective, and deciding how to help animals and people get along with each other. Through this activity, Masako says she has learned that not only pets but also people are suffering at the same time, and she would like to see Japan create a society where people and animals can live in harmony. She would like to see a society where people and animals do not coexist in harmony, but rather a society where people can live a better and richer life with animals.

Team Schnauzer Rescue

Team Schnauzer Rescue, which works across the country, provides protection for schnauzers.
A group of Schnauzer owners who love Schnauzers have been working together to protect them since 2012.
They are a group of individuals, so they don’t have their own shelter.
We just take care of them at each member’s home.
We don’t have members in every prefecture, so there are still some areas where we can’t do anything for Schnauzers.
We were able to interview Team Schnauzer Rescue remotely.

Q: How did you get started with this activity?

A: I like Schnauzers myself, and I want to save them from being put to death! I started this activity because I wanted to

Q: Why do you dare to protect only schnauzers?

A: The first time I rescued a Schnauzer was because it was the first one I rescued. We also began to start a sheltering program because someone we knew was involved in such activities.

Q: It was written on the website that “We visit your home once to prevent foster parenting fraud. What exactly does this involve?

A: You pretend to be a foster parent and take in a shelter dog, but
I’m going to resell it.
We’re going to let them reproduce.
Abuse them, etc., etc., etc.
It’s about being treated the way people want to be treated.

Q: Why do you take care of each family instead of a shelter?

A: Because shelters don’t convey the warmth of a human being, each family takes in a dog. Also, the quality of life is improved by having a dog in the house, so it benefits both parties.

Q: What is the trial period?

A: They will live with you for about two weeks, during which time you and your dog will be checked for allergies, allergies, and living patterns.

During the trial period, please keep in close contact with us and report back to us about your dog’s condition.

Hamamatsu Livestock Hospital

From these stories, we saw the need to change the “place where dogs and cats are bought and sold” and we were able to interview veterinarian Takenobu, a leading authority on the “new trade”.

Since 1972, he has been operating in Ryuzenji-cho and has always provided high quality medical care that is in tune with the times. Not only as a veterinarian, but also as an educator, the Hamamatsu Trimming College is attached to the clinic with the belief of “Honest Medical Care”.

I recently had the pleasure of interviewing a veterinarian at Hamamatsu Livestock Hospital

Q: How did you get your start?

A: In a typical pet store, animals were separated from their parents and displayed in small showcases under less-than-ideal conditions at a time when they were still desirable to be with their parents or siblings. In addition, children with congenital diseases or illnesses were also sold intact.
We wanted to change this situation, so we began to take action.

Q: What do you do?

A: In order to reduce the number of shelter dogs, of course it’s important to save the dogs in our care, but I think it’s also important to reduce the number of dogs being abandoned. In order to do that, I think it’s important that both the dogs and their owners are happy. We are working to make both parties happy.

For example, as a veterinarian, I did health checks and microchipping to save dogs that were sold in poor conditions and those that were still sick. Nowadays, this idea has spread to many pet shops in Hamamatsu, and more and more pet shops have veterinary clinics attached to them. I think this has created a better environment for dogs and a safer environment for pet owners to meet their pets.

At present, I am trying to approach it from the aspect of animal behavior with Dr. Suzuki, whom I will introduce later.

It is important to know how many different experiences a dog has before it is three months old. During this period, they will be exposed to a lot of people and other animals, as well as outside sounds and stimuli. Being more frightened of cars, for example. These behaviors, such as barking hard at other dogs and being more frightened of cars, will be eliminated.

It’s not easy to give a 3-month-old dog a variety of experiences on an individual basis. That’s why we have an event called a “Puppy Party”. A “Puppy Party” is an event where puppies get together and people can come in contact with their puppies. Puppies develop social skills and those who attend the event learn how to spend time with and interact with dogs.

The story of Ms. Suzuki, who works with us, can be found in Number 6, Animal Welfare Ideas.

What do you think about when you hear about the various conservation groups?
I want to change the way people perceive their pets, and I hope it will resonate with as many people as possible.
