Our theme is “Hamamatsu as a Multicultural City”. Do you know that the number of foreign people living in Shizuoka Prefecture is higher than that of other prefectures in Japan? What a surprise! We’re in eighth place, behind cities like Tokyo, Osaka, Saitama and Chiba! There are many foreigners here in Hamamatsu city.

The graph above shows the number of registered foreigners living in Hamamatsu City, and you can see that there has been a significant increase in the number of registered residents from 1990, when HICE started collecting statistics, to 2019.

§ HICE

HICE is a foundation working in Hamamatsu City. They mainly promote multiculturalism by sharing information, providing consultation services , and introducing culture. Also, they hold various courses and events. They also work with various organizations to create a symbiotic society in the region.

§ JAAC

The organization provides support for study abroad programs, mainly for high school and university students, as well as support for their implementation and the development of exchange programs.
